Manufacturing Technician – Opto-Electronics

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Araceli Biosciences delivers high-performance scientific tools for cell-based biomarker discovery, drug discovery, and drug development. We are seeking an experienced, highly skilled manufacturing technician who has a very high attention to detail and is looking for a challenging and exciting new role.

The Manufacturing Technician's role is to support the build, calibration, and testing of high-performance digital microscopes designed for advanced cellular imaging. This role is ideal for a hands-on, detail-oriented technician who is comfortable working across mechanical, electrical, software, and optical domains. You will collaborate closely with engineers and scientists to assemble precision instrumentation, validate system performance, and troubleshoot issues from prototype through production.

 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assemble precision mechanical components, motion stages, opto-mechanical mounts, and custom hardware
  • Perform fine-pitch mechanical alignment and tolerance verification
  • Read and interpret engineering drawings, exploded diagrams, and build documentation
  • Integrate wiring harnesses, connectors, power supplies, sensors, and circuit boards
  • Execute electrical validation tests (continuity, grounding, power distribution)
  • Assemble optical systems including lenses, mirrors, filters, objectives, and illumination modules
  • Conduct optical alignment, focus calibration, and performance tasks such as resolution testing, illumination uniformity measurement, and optical axis alignment
  • Use optical test equipment to align optical systems
  • Run system-level test software to validate imaging performance, acquisition accuracy, and hardware communication
  • Assist with debugging firmware-controlled subsystems (motors, cameras, LEDs, sensors).
  • Perform full functional testing of microscopes prior to release
  • Document issues, test results, calibration values, and system configurations
  • Provide feedback for product improvements and process optimization
  • Effectively communicate with individuals cross departmentally
  • Manage and track production inventory and subassemblies in our Netsuite ERP
  • Create, update, and organize technical documentation including procedures, troubleshooting guides, & system configurations.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in instrumentation assembly, preferably in microscopy, semiconductor tools, analytical instruments, or related high-precision systems
  • Strong mechanical assembly skills with experience working at small scales
  • Proficiency with electronics testing tools and basic troubleshooting
  • Experience with optical alignment and calibration of imaging systems
  • Familiarity with software-driven instrumentation, including test scripts or data acquisition software
  • Ability to read engineering drawings, schematics, and technical documentation
  • Position requires regular standing, bending, and lifting of equipment or materials weighing up to 50 lbs in accordance with safety procedures
  • Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving ability, and documentation skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with high-resolution digital imaging systems (microscopes)
  • Knowledge of microscopy techniques (brightfield, fluorescence, confocal, etc.)
  • Experience working in controlled environments (cleanrooms or optical labs)
  • Background in biotech, life sciences, photonics, or precision automation
  • Ability to quickly learn and use proprietary digital imaging instrument software.

JOB LOCATION:

This role requires on-site work during regular business hours. Our office is located in Tigard, Oregon.
